Faculty Development - A Primer will provide lectures and interactive sessions related to the following topics: 1. Change - A construct for faculty development 2. Lifelong learning - A foundation for faculty development 3. The Enneagram - The core of faculty awareness and development 4. The five dysfunctions of a team - faculty development in teams 5. Leadership for faculty in academic medical centers 6. Situational leadership 7. Pathways to national recognition 8. Mentoring, coaching, and sponsoring 9. Professionalism 10. The social order of academic medicine 11. Special programs in faculty development - sabbaticals, festschrifts, etc. 12. Burnout

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the difference between content expertise and academic leadership.
  2. Describe the types of change, including evolution, transformation, and disruptive innovation.
  3. Describe the benefits of lifelong learning in the life cycle of the academic physician.
  4. Enumerate the nine Enneagram types and describe their qualities, particularly as they apply to the academic physician.
  5. Enumerate the five dysfunctions of a team, particularly as they apply to the development of the academic physician.
  6. Describe the primary leadership types, including the coercive, authoritative, affiliative, democratic, coaching, and pacesetting types.
  7. Describe the concept of situational leadership and its beneficial nature in the setting of academic medicine.
  8. Describe the impact factor, H-index, and power score and how these scholarly activity aspects contribute the effective faculty development.
  9. Describe the concepts and nuances of mentorship, coaching, and sponsorship, and how these practices benefit faculty development.
  10. Describe professionalism and all of its attributes in the practice of academic medicine.
  11. Describe the social order of medicine.
  12. Describe special programs in faculty development constructs, including sabbaticals and Festschrifts.
  13. Describe the Maslach triad of burnout and methods to mitigate this occasional and unfortunate sequelae of the practice of academic medicine.
